ART REQUIREMENTS
October 2003
These are general requirements. Final pricing is dependent
on receipt and evaluation of art/computer files. Quality of final product
is dependent on quality of art. Color rendition on computer monitors varies
widely. Files that appear on Web sites are generally too small to look
good on a sign or a banner. The larger the file, the better the final
output.
All of our computers run Windows XP. Our
software and our printers are optimized for the latest versions of Adobe
and Corel. Files produced by earlier software or within earlier operating
systems may produce unpredictable results.
DATA STORAGE FORMAT
PC format saved as AI, EPS or CDR file. Convert all
text and shapes to curves, shapes or outlines. We need IBM diskettes;
we do not read MAC files.
SPOT COLOR GRAPHICS
Adobe Illustrator (up to 10.0)
- Camera-ready artwork to scale of finished size
– as large as possible for optimum reproduction.
- Line art with colors filled in correct places
- All under layer images knocked out in appropriate
places
- Spot colors, not CMYK, customer defined by PMS
number or sample color swatches provided
- Covert all copy to curves, shapes or outlines
- All shapes must be closed
- If fonts are not outlined or converted to curves,
the Font Must Be Included On The Disk. Please provide the postscript
and/or TrueType fonts. When providing Postscript fonts, please include
both the Screen Font and the Printer Font. Avoid putting fonts in
Photoshop, they can look bitmapped or jagged at full size. Photoshop
files also cannot be manipulated if corrections are needed. For better
end results, fonts should be added in Illustrator.
FOUR COLOR PROCESS OR HALFTONE GRAPHICS
- Photoshop 7.0 format or Corel PhotoPaint 11.0
or later
- At least ¼ scale EPS files -- PLEASE MAKE FILE
AS LARGER AS POSSIBLE FOR OPTIMUM REPRODUCTION
- 100% 100 Lines screen image at least 300 dpi
resolution – THE HIGHER DPI, THE HIGHER QUALITY OF FINISHED PRODUCT.
REDUCTION IN DPI IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO THE INCREASE IN SIZE.
A 300 DPI FILE THAT IS ENLARGED BY A FACTOR OF 4 WILL HAVE A FINAL
OUTPUT RESOLUTION OF ONLY 75 DPI!!!
- All files must be proportional to final size
- CMYK colors
- Need file in CD Rom - Files are usually
too big to e-mail
- Files must be appropriate for silkscreen printing
- JPG files MAY also be used, but we will need
to review them. They are often too small to enlarge
VINYL –ONLY GRAPHICS
- All text must be converted to curves, shapes
or lines
- Remove strokes in Adobe Illustrator
- No overlapping lines
- Shapes must be contoured
- Remember, there are about 5000 PMS colors and
only 250 Vinyl colors – unless you want a special PMS color match
vinyl produced

as follows:
- Once the artwork is saved correctly, the file
should be saved as an attachment to your e-mail.
- E-mailing fonts:
- Save the font into a folder
- Once the font is saved into a folder, stuff
it to create a self-extracting archive
- Save this as an attachment to your e-mail
NOTE: A disk will still be required if e-mailing
is not successful.
***** PLEASE SUBMIT A HARD COPY
OF ARTWORK TO ACCOMPANY DISK. THIS WILL AID IN PRODUCTION
***** PRICING & QUALITY OF
